Children are permitted to attend school in the Netherlands from the age of four. School is compulsory for children from the age of five to sixteen.
The choice of school or type of school is entirely yours to make. You are free to discuss your wishes with the management of the school you have in mind. Children from the age of four (in some cases three) are first admitted to an eight-year primary school. After completion of primary school, children make a choice for their secondary education. In cases where a school offers both Primary and Secondary Education, the transition from one educational level to the next is uninterrupted. An important decision all parents of school-age children have to make when they move internationally is whether to place their children in local or international education. Dutch-English Bilingual Secondary Education & International Baccalaureate using the Montessori method:
Montessori College Twente
The Montessori College Twente offers Dutch-English bilingual secondary education (TweeTalig Onderwijs). This havo-vwo stream uses the immersion method were English is spoken as early as possible and next to extra English language classes subjects such as geography, history, biology, mathematics, physical education, music, technology and science are taught in English language. Students can obtain their Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English in year 3 and the International Baccalaureate in year six facilitating access to English-speaking universities worldwide. An additional school fee of 450€ per year is required i.a. for the annual international school trip.
